 Though average in most respects, this utility for managing which programs run at start-up provides a couple of helpful extras. The main window's left pane displays a list of all users on a certain PC, while the right pane shows you which applications will launch when that person logs in. Disabling any process from running on bootup is a simple matter of unchecking the correct box or right-clicking a particular entry. You also can add programs to the start-up list, but you won't find an uninstaller for completely removing unwanted software. We also wish ActiveStartup monitored your PC in real time and categorized programs as necessary, optional, or harmful, to better assist in the fight against adware. Still, we did appreciate the program's ability to display all active or idle processes on your PC, complete with descriptions to ensure you don't disable something important. The inclusion of a shortcut to the registry editor and a tool for backing up current configurations also are welcome additions. System administrators with simple needs may find ActiveStartup a useful find.
